Academic Achievement
English Language Learners (ELLs) represent approximately 5,000,000 students in the United States and are between 10 - 20% of the student population in California, Colorado, Maryland and Massachusetts – where SWB delivers high quality youth services in the United States.
Although in some states ELLs graduate at a rate comparable to native English speakers, the national four-year high school graduation rate for ELLs is 71% versus 86% for native English speakers.

Working Together to Make an Impact
SWB is creating systems change in the academic achievement of newcomer youth by ensuring multi-year, consistent, rooted partnerships with the schools and school districts they attend and collaboration with school staff and leadership 36-40 weeks of the academic school year.
SWB programs are ideally suited to Community Schools as we are working in partnership with schools in Oakland, CA; Aurora, CO; and Baltimore, MD.

SWB coaches are full-time staff who serve as youth mentors and:
-
Ensure youth have fun through soccer
-
Receive the academic guidance and support they need
-
Are connected into culturally and linguistically appropriate services and opportunities that provide the requisite healthcare, mental health, legal, workforce and any other needs that may arise.

Annually, in the United States we provide between 30,000 - 50,000 contact hours and in Uganda we provide over 200,000 contact hours between SWB coaches and youth.
