Where We Work to Improve the Quality of and Access to Inclusive Coach Education

Soccer is a powerful platform for inclusion, but creating truly welcoming spaces takes intention, training, and leadership that reflects the diversity of the communities we serve.

Drawing on 20 years of experience working with newcomer youth and marginalized girls around the world, we partner with pro and semi-pro clubs, schools, NGOs, and others like-minded organizations around the world to advance equity through coach education. From the Bay Area to East Africa, these trainings equip coaches to lead with empathy, challenge bias, and create environments where all youth feel safe, valued, and empowered to thrive.

SWB provides holistic inclusive coach education can include tracks on creating gender equity and access; addressing structural inequities and racial justice in communities; mental health practices for youth and coaches; and violence prevention through coaching. These coach education programs are detailed below.

Chicago, Illinois (USA)

Partners: CJ Brown Foundation, Laureus Illinois

With monetary support from Laureus Illinois, SWB has partnered with the CJ Brown Foundation to deliver in-person training sessions on Violence Prevention through Sport. Attendees came from sports and violence-prevention organizations across the city, and learned about incorporating conversations about violence prevention into their sport programming as well as how to de-escalate situations and support youth emotional regulation.
