After a three year hiatus brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, Soccer Without Borders (SWB) is thrilled to announce that the SWB Uganda Youth Festival is returning to Kampala, Uganda in 2023!
The annual tradition, which is set to resume during the week of January 16th to 20th, 2023, is the signature event of the SWB Uganda calendar and includes five full days of fun and enriching activities built upon SWB’s pillars of soccer, education, and community.

Amongst the face painting, cultural foods, dance competitions and, of course, lots and lots of soccer, the festival’s more than 500 refugee, newcomer, and local Ugandan youth attendees will participate in a number of specially-designed activities. For example, this may include subjects such as mental health education, English and academic development, and more.

We are currently looking for volunteers who are not only willing and able to travel to Uganda, but more importantly, share a passion for helping underserved youth reach their full potential. “What a great experience it was to volunteer at the Youth Festival,” recalled Brock, a volunteer during the 2019 version of the festival. “My time in Uganda was life-changing! I enjoyed seeing how the beautiful game that I love is such a powerful and moving force for good in their lives.”
Chris, who has volunteered at the youth festival on four separate occasions, also looks back fondly at his experience: “The entire trip is well organized with a healthy dose of youth soccer, teaching [youth participants], learning about Ugandan and bordering countries' cultures and foods, and working with [those] who are extremely enthusiastic and happy that you are spending time with them. I am really looking forward to my next trip for the SWB Uganda Youth Festival."
While this opportunity is great for soccer fans, athletes, students, teachers, and coaches, there is no minimum level of soccer experience or youth development knowledge required.
